Operation Santa receives significant contribution of $300,000.00

SASKATOON, SK/October 21, 2024 –We’re excited to share that Operation Santa has just received a major contribution to this year’s campaign! Dakota Dunes Community Development Corporation presented Operation Santa with $300,000 that will make a meaningful impact in the lives of so many during this holiday season. This year, we’ve set an ambitious goal of reaching 750 families. Operation Santa is a non-profit/referral-based hamper program established in 2015 and this initiative continues today with many dedicated community partners onboard including sponsors, community-based organizations (CBOs) & industry partners.

“As a lead sponsor of Operation Santa, we are dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of our community. This innovative initiative brings joy and comfort to Saskatoon families during the holiday season and ensures they receive essential food support. Food security is a critical health issue, as access to nutritious food is fundamental to preventing chronic health conditions and promoting overall well-being. By supporting Operation Santa, we are making a significant and positive impact on the lives of those in need.” said Saskatoon Tribal Chief, Mark Arcand.

The initiative focuses on dignity-first community and family-sponsor matching in Saskatoon. By pairing sponsor-families with Saskatoon families and relatives during the holiday season, we work with existing networks that uplifts and connects us all.

Shirley Greyeyes, Director, Dakota Dunes Community Development Corporation and Co-Chair, Operation Santa says, “Operation Santa is all about community working together! We always hear, it takes a community to raise a child, it actually takes a community, to be a community. The DDCDC believes success comes through community partnerships and this contribution shows that the DDCDC is committed to furthering partnerships in our community.”

Through the established relationships, we address food insecurity and bridge the gaps on critical issues such as homelessness, technology access, mobility, childcare, literacy, and transportation barriers. Operation Santa aims to help CBOs do more for families, with any additional resources raised going toward future food security efforts.
